The state is bordered by New York State to the north, across the Hudson River in New York Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Delaware to the southwest, and Pennsylvania, beyond from Delaware River to the west. New York (New Netherlands) had an involvement in the state early colonial history. New Jersey was made an English colony a tear after the Dutch surrender to England in 1664 under the then Governor Philip Carteret. The colony split between Carteret and a company of English Quaker who won the rights belonging to John and Lord Berkeley was done in 1676. In 1702, New Jersey became a united crown colony and governed by the governor of New York. In 1738, New Jersey was finally separated from New York under Lewis Morris who was the royal governor of New York. During the American Revolution New Jersey saw more war because of its location which was between Philadelphia and New York City.

New Jersey's land area is 7,836 square miles (20,295 square kilometers), with over 9.3 million people in population as of 2024. The capital of New Jersey is Trenton, and Newark is the largest city. New Jersey was admitted into the statehood on Dec 18, 1787, as the third of the first 13 states to ratify the Constitution. Today, New Jersey is known to be wide in industrial diversification and is also known as the crossroads of the East. Over 20,000 products from manufacturers can be transported overnight to over 100 million people. The chemical industry is the greatest industry in the state. New Jersey is one of the leading research institutions in the world. Many oil refineries can be found in northern New Jersey. Other products manufactured in the state are drugs, machinery, appliances, electrical items, and clothing. Tourism is known to be the second largest industry in New Jersey, with numerous resort areas in the state.

There are lots of landmarks in New Jersey which include Absecon light, which is one of the tallest lighthouse in the country; Atlantic city boardwalk, known to be the longest boardwalk in the world, there are famous streets, hotels and casinos when strolling the boardwalk; Barnegat lighthouse, regarded as the fourth tallest lighthouse in the country; Bow craft Amusement park, suitable for the medium size family with various attractions for children and teens; Lakehurst Naval Air Weapons Center, a 7,412 acres of land located in Lakehurst; Lucy the Elephant, becoming a historic landmark in 1976 located in Margate; New Jersey state house, known as the second oldest state house in the country.
