WEST VIRGINIA

West Virginia is located in the eastern region of United States sharing borders with Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland. The area was known to be inhabited mostly by the Iroquois Native Americans prior to European settlement in the region. West Virginia was formally part of Virginia State prior to becoming its own state, but after many years of war, political battles, and discontent, West Virginia was excluded from Virginia and was admitted into the state union as the 35th state on June 20, 1863. West Virginia is regarded as the 41st largest U.S. state having land area capacity of about 24,230 square miles. West Virginia is the 38th most populated U.S. state and the 29th most densely populated U.S. state with around 1,854,304 people in population.

West Virginia rapid industrial evolution started in the 1870s, bringing lots of European immigrants and African Americans into the land, this brought about mining activities and war to the state. Hence, the intervention of the state and federal troops in the miners' strikes between 1912 and 1921 was then required to put down the violence in the region. Today, West Virginia ranks second in coal production handling over 12.5% of the U.S. total production. The state is also a leader in the manufacturing of steel, glass, aluminum and chemical. Major agricultural products in the state includes broilers, chicken eggs, cattle and calves, dairy products, and turkeys. The mountains in the state is also a form of tourist attraction in the state.

West Virginia Landmarks includes; Andrews United Methodist Church and International Mother's Day Shrine, this was where the first mother's day was celebrated on May 10, 1908; Barrackville Covered Bridge, Berkeley Castle, built by Samuel Taylor Suit and made up of 13 room cottage; The 6,500 Big Bend Tunnel; Bnai El Synagogue, known to be the only permanent synagogue and the first in Logan County; Bnai Jacob Synagogue, The synagogue features unique glass windows on the interior part and was built from 1948 to 1949; Camden Amusement Park, the amusement park now has over 30 attractions and rides; Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park, a 156 acre park has the Patterson House Museum. Other Landmarks are Core Arboretum, Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park, Drover's Inn and Lodge, Fairfax Stone Historical Monument, Hancock County Historical Museum (Marshall House), Homer Laughlin China Company, Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort, North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB), Peter Tarr Furnace, Tomlinson Run State Park, Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, West Virginia State Capitol, West Virginia State Penitentiary, World's Largest Teapot.

West Virginia shouldn't be anyway underrated as the state is often the butt of jokes. The Mountain state is one of the best state to live in. The state is known to have heroes who have served the country wholeheartedly, not neglecting the fact that the people of the state are patriotic. The state is known to have great sports teams and lots of musical talent in which you can be proud of when you live in the state. Lastly, you tend to be smart when you live in the state.
